Summary:
Solving for X is a foundation skill. It will be used in both math and science courses throughout high school.
Tasks:
This is a two-part lesson. The first part will consist of students watching presentations and demonstrations using different technologies-smart board, online videos, and online tutorials. The second part will consist of student practice using online websites, smartboard and dry-erase boards to solve problems.

Demonstration Activities:

  • use Smartboard to do examples for students
  • have students work in partners using the Smartboard

Practice Activities:
Students play algebra games at different websites. They can use these or find their own.

Students work in pairs to solve problems on the dry erase and Smart board.
Objectives:
  • Students will be able to solve equations for X

Assessment:
Students will create a video tutorial. This video will have each student showing others how they solve for x.
A rubric will describe the requirements for each video. it must include the steps to solve for X and two complete examples. A script is requred.

Alternate assignment options: Students create a booklet or a poerpoint for a tutorial. This would include steps and examples and be generated either by hand or using Word or Powerpoint. A rubric will describe the requirements.
